How much bigger can I buy a pair of running shoes before it's too big?
I've found my favourite shoes - Mizuno Wave Inspire 5 online at a clearance sale but the smallest size is a 9.5, I am a 9. The 9s I have fit perfect, but I'm thinking about getting a couple more pairs at 9.5. Could this cause serious damage running for long distances on a shoe too big or can I just wear thicker socks and tie up the laces tighter? Anyone with experience/problems in wearing bigger shoes??
First of all wearing bigger shoes can create blister problem because wearing bigger socks means wearing cotton socks which means moisture is absorbed which causes friction which causes blisters. If you try the shoes on at the end of the day or after a long run wearing your running socks and the distance of the big toe is your thumb width away from the end then it is alright to get them but wearing bigger shoes in my opinion can only create problems. Besides while are they having a clearance sale on them. Are there any defects? If I wore bigger shoes they just don't feel right and I feel as if my foot was going to come out of them. Others may give you a different response but I always raced my best when the shoes fit right.
